Do you do custom orders? No, we don't. These Divas come from the head, not the eyes and portraiture is not Diva Plates strength. However, we do create a limited amount of plates and platters that can be personalised with a name. Please contact us for information on these items.
-
Do the original Diva paintings come framed? No, they don't. Due to shipping cost and risk of damage, we don't frame the works. All original art is carefully and lovingly packaged and mailed in a postal tube.
-
Are the melamine plates safe for food?Yes they are. They are BPA free, safe for food, dishwasher safe. Do not us in Microwave.
-
Are the ceramic plates/platters safe for food?Yes they are. The paint used is non-toxic and totally safe for food. Please DO NOT use sharp knives or implements on these items as it can damage the paint and leave marks. If using these items for food, they are ideal for fruit platters, sandwiches, small slices and cakes - anything that doesn't need cutting or the use of cutlery. These hand painted items are also NOT dishwasher safe. A damp soapy cloth/sponge should be used to clean.
-
Why does my hand painted ceramic Diva item have imperfections?Unlike mass produced items, hand painted items do have imperfections. No two are the same! We like to think of it more like character! Each item is truly unique and 100% hand painted.
-
What is involved in creating the ceramic Diva items?Creating these items is quite a long process. The first step is sketching the Diva onto the ceramic item. Then the first colour is applied. When that colour has dried enough (about 3 hours), the next colour is added. Each colour has to be applied separately to stop bleeding. Once all colours have been applied and have dried completely (overnight), all the outlining and Diva "blinging" is done. The item then dries completely (24-48 hours), is then baked and left for a further 24-48 hours. The item is finally then ready.
-
How can I commission a Diva painting?Diva Plates do not do commissions. Just not our thing. However, we do add Diva original artworks of various sizes and mediums to our store. Also check our social media sites for updates on new artworks.
-
Are Diva Plates an environmentally friendly company?Diva Plates tries to be as environmentally friendly as possible. We try to use as many recycled and eco products in our packaging and in the making of our products and we will continue to always find ways to improve on this. Being a small Australian business ourselves, we believe in supporting other Australian businesses - especially small ones. Unless impossible, all of our products are designed, created and made in Australia.
-
Where are your melamine plates made? Our Diva melamine plates unfortunately fell in to the impossible to be made in Australia category. We tried and tried and researched and researched ways of producing these plates in Australia, but it was not possible to do in a remotely cost effective way. With the plates having to be made overseas, in China, we selected a manufacturer that had already implemented and was striving to continually improve their environmental policies and credentials.

Why are the tea towels microfibre not cotton? We decided to go with microfibre and not cotton after a great deal of research. Although microfibre is inorganic and does not biodegrade, it does have plenty of green credentials on its side. Although cotton is biodegradable, environmentally speaking, the cotton industry is one of the dirtiest in the world. The cotton industry uses large amounts of synthetic fertilisers and pesticides and these end up polluting the waterways, contribute to greenhouse gas emissions and ruin the soil. Cotton is also a large contributor to water scarcity. It takes over 5,000 gallons of water to produce enough cotton to make just one t-shirt! And organic cotton uses even more water than conventional cotton. Microfibre also does not contribute to the deforestation of forests. Microfibre can be washed 200-300 times before starting to lose its effectiveness, where cotton is 20-30 times. This helps retain the quality of the printed art and strength of colour on the tea towel. Therefore, when considering all these factors, we decided to go with the microfibre tea towels.
